Sir Richard Lambert yesterday published his report on the proposed Banking Standards Review Council.  The focus is to be on behaviour rather than competence.

The report recognises that “ethics cannot be taught in the same way as a technical subject.”  The industry-wide practice of adopting corporate values is not enough if these turn out to be “little more than worthy statements with little or no impact on behaviour.”   So a key question Sir Richard poses is “what is the best way of integrating ethical decision-making into day-to- day activities in a fast moving business environment?”  Tick box training doesn’t work.  How do you truly embed ethical behaviour in an organisation? byrne.dean is arranging a forum to discuss this – and we hope you will be able to join us.  Further details to follow shortly.
